Bulldogs slide by Sages

Saint Teresa defense keys
62-48 victory

DECATUR -- Throughout the postseason the Bulldogs will key on the phrase "Survive and advance." Wednesday night the Bulldogs didn't only survive, but convincingly defeated the Monticello Sages 62-48 to pave their way to Friday night's Regional Championship.

The Bulldogs, with the help of an energetic crowd, played a good game throughout. The Dawgs started with a three point field goal on their first possession to get things moving. The home team continued the next eight minutes with the same intenstiy and owned a 2 point edge (15-13) at the quarter break.

Saint Teresa jumped on the Sages in the second quarter looking to increase the small lead, which they did. The Dawgs increased their lead to as much as 9 in the quarter and took a 6 point (28-22) lead into the half time session.

Saint Teresa came out with the same energy it had throughout the game and stepped it up on the defensive end of the floor again and again, having the visitors work hard for every one of their points. With the defensive effort the home team had a 9 point lead in its hands going into the final eight minutes of the game.

To finish -- this is what needed to happen in the final eight minutes of regulation for the Bulldogs to advance. Strong defense, made free throws, and keeping the Sages off of the boards especially -- on the offensive end. This is what helped the Bulldogs to pull away with a decisive 14 point victory, 62-48.

Tim Brilley and Adam McCoy -- who created a dynamic inside-out duo throughtout the game -- led the way once again offensively for the Bulldogs.  McCoy led the Bulldogs with 21.

Saint Teresa will hit the court again on Friday to try to bring home the schools first regional title since 1996.  It will be the first regional title game apperance since 1997 when the Dawgs were defeated by Argenta on a three pointer with just 2 seconds left.

The Meridian Hawks, who have defeated the Bulldogs 3 times in the regular season, are the only thing standing in the way of this team as they seek the school's eighth Regional Title!
